Welcome to Colorado: Where Curiosity Comes Alive
Welcome back to Uniquely Mixed — the place where travel isn’t just about destinations, but discoveries.
Around here, family road trips come layered with mystery. Ancient landmarks. Quiet symbols tucked into plain sight. The kind of places that make you stop, look twice, and ask, “Wait… what’s really going on here?”
If you’re drawn to escape rooms, historical breadcrumbs, and meaningful adventures, you’re in the right place. You will cherish these adventures with the people you love. This is exactly where you belong.
This time, our compass pointed west to Colorado. I hadn’t spent much time in this state. Then my curiosity was piqued by whispered symbols. I discovered hidden histories and one airport that refuses to stay quiet.
Colorado didn’t just meet expectations — it invited questions.
🚐 On the Road with the Pikes
For the past 12 weeks, my in-laws have been RVing across the U.S., and we’ve been weaving in and out of their journey. For this chapter, we flew into Denver and set up base in Colorado Springs.
From the moment we arrived, the energy shifted.
The mountains felt watchful. The air felt lighter. Colorado had a presence — and we felt it immediately.
Day 1: Arrival & Alignment
After landing in Denver, we grabbed our minivan and headed south through open stretches of road toward Colorado Springs. The reunion took place fireside at the RV site. There was laughter and stories shared. A quiet excitement settled in before something good began.
This wasn’t a rushed trip.
It felt intentional.
Day 2: Garden of the Gods & Ancient Echoes
Garden of the Gods was our first major stop — and it stopped us in our tracks.
Free to the public. No commercial buildings. No alcohol. Just towering red rock formations that felt more like a cathedral than a park. You don’t just see this place — you feel it.
Later, we explored the Manitou Cliff Dwellings, preserved homes of the Ancestral Puebloans. Walking through the stone structures felt like stepping into a conversation across time. The walls carried stories — if you were quiet enough to listen.
That night ended by the fire, watching the sun dissolve behind the mountains.
Day 3: Pikes Peak, Disc Golf & Frozen Fingers
We stood atop Pikes Peak — America’s Mountain — before heading to Cottonwood Creek Park for a disc golf showdown.
Yes, I won.
No, my fingers did not survive the cold.
The fire pit tried its best, but Colorado weather made the final call. We traded card games for warmth and called it a night.
Fun Fact: At roughly 6,800 feet above sea level, Colorado stands higher on average. It is higher than any other state in the U.S.
Day 4: Mountain Magic & Game Night Rituals
One of the unexpected highlights was the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, built directly into the mountainside. Stunning views. Thriving animals. A genuinely joyful experience — especially for our daughter.
Later, we visited a military-themed distillery. Bourbon tasting turned into a lesson in restraint. I bowed out gracefully after round three. The night wrapped with shuffleboard and card games — because every good trip needs its traditions.
🧩 Day 5: Escape Rooms & Perfect Nachos
Back in Denver, we stepped into an Egyptian tomb–themed escape room and locked in. A few nudges, a lot of teamwork, and we made our escape just in time.
Victory demanded celebration — and the nachos at Rock Bottom delivered. Every chip loaded. No regrets.
Day 6: Breakfast & the Denver Airport Question
One final breakfast — unforgettable, unnamed, and therefore legendary.
Then came Denver International Airport.
If you know… you know.
Gargoyles.
Murals.
Masonic symbols.
Underground tunnel rumors.
Whether you call it art or conspiracy, DIA doesn’t whisper — it invites investigation.
